How Is Property Divided in Ohio? 

One of the most commonly contested issues couples encounter during divorce is the division of property. The state of Ohio breaks down property into two categories: marital property and separate property. 

Marital Property vs. Separate Property 

Any property obtained during the marriage is considered marital property. This can include assets such as:

Separate property refers to any property — real, personal, or intangible — that a spouse:
